WELCOME TO PLAYOFFS!
Woo-hoo! Congrats on a 1-0 win last night during the first game of Round 2. Cody Mickelson scored the lone goal of the game on a pass from Chris Weber. Goalie Josh Lehr finished with the shutout. That means a win tonight OR Sunday would send our team to the National Tournament in Marlborough Mass. later this month.

The Northern Lights had a solid third place in the league final standings and continue league playoffs this weekend. (Saturday 7:00 at Wakota Arena in South Saint Paul, Sunday 2:00 at LJ if needed). We beat the 6th place Edina Lakers Friday 4-3 and Saturday 8-1. Now we face off against the Granite City Lumberjacks while the Ice Hawks play the Wisconsin Mustangs in the other bracket. Four teams left with two teams going to nationals. Playoffs are a best of three series with the higher seed hosting the first (and third game if needed). Granite City would host Sunday night if needed. The final two teams from our league in Round 3 will represent the MNJHL at nationals the last week in March. Go Lights! **Reminder: everyone pays for playoffs, including parents.
Check out the News tab for the latest league article about the upcoming series and the Weekly updates for what happens if the Northern Lights wins this weekend. Don't forget that you lose an hour on Saturday night!

So what's with the Purple Pinkies??
When a Rotary volunteer gives a child a polio vaccine during National Immunization Days in developing countries, the child's little finger is dyed purple to ensure only one dose is given per child and that all children are immunized in that village by fast spot check. In solidarity with the Rotary PolioPlus campaign, our team colored their pinkies to raise awareness and when people give money to polio, they get this "badge of honor." Our home game stuffed animal toss goes for PolioPlus which will protect kids for life from this crippling disease.

PHILOSOPHY OF JUNIOR HOCKEY
Junior hockey is the pinnacle of the skill development program of USA Hockey. It is available to male athletes who are 20 and under as of the 31st day of December in the season of competition. The program is available to high school students and graduates who seek a greater or different challenge than that which might be available through their prep school team, high school varsity or club team, or area midget teams. The principal purpose of this development program is to prepare the athlete for career advancement either in a collegiate or professional opportunity.

PURPOSE OF JUNIOR HOCKEY
1. To provide an opportunity for players in this age group to play organized hockey
2. To improve and develop the skills and abilities of the participants, including the players, coaches and officials.

GOALS OF JUNIOR HOCKEY
1. Skill Development To provide talented young men with the opportunity to develop competitively in an organized, structured and supervised environment
2. Quality Coaching To provide considerable training time, quality coaching and concerned supervision
3. Social Maturity To provide players with a healthy, constructive environment in which to develop socially
4. Educational Advancement To provide assistance and opportunities for the accomplishment of the participants educational goals
5. Recruiting Exposure To provide players with exposure to collegiate and professional scouts and recruiters
6. Advanced Competition To provide players with exposure to national and international competition
7. Protection of Amateur Statues To protect, most importantly, the amateur status of all participants under the rules and guidelines established by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), USA Hockey, Hockey Canada, the NCAA, the NAIA and the National Federation of High Schools.
